"When I started working in the recording studio in the late 1970s, everything was analog.
We cut tapes with scissors, made 24-track recordings with two-inch tape machines and were masters of drop-in on the flight in the ongoing recording.
Then came the digital technology and shortly afterwards the computers. The workflow became easier, faster and more precise. Unfortunately, this left some valuable experiences on the track that we had gained over decades of analog sound processing.
The sound of the late 80s and 90s became clearer but also sharper. With the change to the new millennium, we discovered the hybrid method and, in the course of the analogue renaissance, brought back old transistor and tube-equipment as additions to the digital studio.
Today, with the help of virtual replicas of analog treasures, we are able to reproduce the wanted warmth of previous sound aesthetics - and this is exactly what the X.1 sound philosophy does - without having to forego the advantages of the digital workflow."
